How to Look Like a Fashionista While Traveling/Flying

It’s the trip of a lifetime and you know you want to be ready for the camera as soon as the plane lands. You also know that you could be walking a mile or more in the airport to reach your boarding gate. How do you balance the desire to be fashionable and the need to be comfortable while flying? No, you do not need to wear 6 inch stilettos, or have your hair blown out to perfection. Lucky for you, there are actually a lot of current fashion trends that are incredibly comfy. Here’s how to look like a fashionista while traveling.

Athleisure

If you are anything like me, you will be super stoked about this new fashion sensation: athleisure. Aptly named, atheleisure combines the function of athletic wear with the form of high fashion. It is now acceptable for men to pair Nikes with a business suit and for women to wear yoga pants outside of the studio. All of this is good news for travelers seeking fashionable comfort. Get ready to rock sneakers with that skirt.

This also means that yoga pants are the new jeans. Yoga pants can be dressed up or down to suit many occasions. Paired with non-athletic pieces and accessories, you can take your yoga pants from home to work to a night out on the town. There are even yoga pants made specifically for travel that have secret pockets hidden in the waistband. The secret pocket allows you to keep money, passports and other valuables safe and close at hand.

Sneaker Style

With the prospect of walking a mile or more in the airport, comfortable shoes are a must, but with fashion in mind just any old sneaker won’t do.

Athletic shoe companies like Nike, Puma and Converse are catering to high fashion trends with sneakers featuring wedge heels, gold accents and floral motifs. On the flip side, high fashion designers like Givenchy, Valentino and Marc Jacobs are trading high heels for high tops. Fashionistas can easily find athletic shoes decked out in lace, silk, and glitter.

If you already have a pair of athletic shoes that you know and love but want to introduce a new style to them, try switching up the laces. Toss out the Plain Jane laces tied in a traditional bow and opt for unique laces sans the bow. Lace anchors hold your laces in place without a bow giving your shoes a cleaner, more sophisticated look.

Go Wrinkle Free

During travel you have a lot of – sit — down time. You sit at the airport waiting to board. You sit for hours on the plane. All of that sitting is bound to wreak havoc on your clothes. Wearing wrinkle-free clothing on your travel days is the best way to ensure you arrive at your destination looking fresh pressed.

Your destination’s culture and climate will also play a role in what you wear while traveling. Being wrinkled may impinge on your looks but being overdressed or under-dressed will impinge on your comfort. Packing the right clothes for your adventure can mean the difference between having a wonderful trip and having a miserable trip.

Accessorize for Jet Lag – and Plane Hair

Red-eye flights and changes in time zones can mean that your carry-on items aren’t the only bags you’ll be taking off the plane with you. Be prepared to hide your tired eyes with a pair of dark sunglasses. To get over jet lag quickly, try to spend as much time in the sun as possible when you arrive at your destination.

If you do manage to get some sleep on the plane, it’s probably due to some sort of contortionist act performed to keep your head upright. You’ll be sporting a serious case of plane hair when you land. Having a cute hat, hairband or scarf ready to tame your mane will guarantee picture perfect selfies.

Flying can be stressful and travelling tiresome but there is no need to look anything less than fresh and excited. With these few simple tips, you can look cool and be comfortable no matter where your adventure takes you!
